Chapel Hill B&B New Zealand is just 40 minutes from glorious Lake Brunner, Lake Mahinapua and 50 minutes from Lake Kaniere. Fish, boat, swim, picnic, or just relax over a coffee or two in the most beautiful surroundings you can imagine. (Fishing licences required!)

Walks Galore

Joy and Crash at Nelson Creek

Get up close and personal with the native wildlife in the bush or on the Coastal fringe and explore the history of the region at the same time.

Joy and Crash (photo right) in the bush at Nelson Creek’s Historical Chinese gold field, situated mid-way within the Grey Valley only 30 minutes drive from Chapel Hill. You may find the remnants of Chinese diggings on our property during your walks, if you don't please ask for directions.

The Grey District web site outlines main walks in and around the Greymouth area. Woods Creek Walk is just 10 minutes from Chapel Hill and an unforgettable experience!  There's also a little bush walk on the property for you to enjoy, a sphagnum moss field, and some pretty river walks just down the road.

If the Ocean is more to your liking, just six minutes back to the State Highway to Paroa there’s a fantastically wild beach to ramble along with great mounds of driftwood, gem stones and gold in the black sand! Fossick to your heart’s content.

One of the area's best fishing guides is a neighbour – Brian Hoy. Brian is well known and respected around the world for his knowledge of the best spots in all conditions. This area is mainly a year round fishery. If you want a day out with Brian, we'll arrange it! He provides everything including the boat!

At the right, John and Crash on their first trout fishing expedition at Mawheriati in the upper Grey valley approximately one hours drive from Chapel Hill.

Surf Casting, Kahawai and White Baiting.

Waiting for the Whitebait.

The Grey River and most of the local streams (except the Taramakau and the Arahura) are open rivers for public whitebaiting. The season runs from September 1 – November 15 each year.

If the surf is more to your liking there are a number of beach's where you can try your luck at surf casting with a wide variety of fish possible.

Shantytown.

One of New Zealand's premier tourist attractions and a must see for visitors to the region. Just 4 minutes drive from Chapel Hill B&B this is a faithfully re-created replica depicting many of the early Coast townships.

Ride the steam train along the bush track and try your hand at panning for gold. Explore the township, the Church, even the Jail. Shantytown can be as active or relaxed as you desire, and all this is only minutes from Chapel Hill B&B.

Punakaiki Rocks and Blowholes.

A must see for visitors to New Zealand
Just 40 minutes drive north from Chapel Hill along the breathtaking scenic Coast Road. Best viewing times for the blowholes are at high tide!

Then continue north through Charleston and on to the Inanghua Junction taking the return trip toward Reefton and down the Grey Valley to Greymouth. This circuit will easily fill your first day on the Coast and give you a wonderful introduction to the scenic splendour, history and green of the Coast.

Shantytown
This is one of New Zealand's premier tourist attractions and only four minutes drive from Chapel Hill BnB. An authentic 1880's replica gold town with over 30 buildings on display. Offering Steam train rides on the bush rail, horse and buggy rides and gold panning. Shantytown has many other attractions and Licensed cafe and bar open daily.
Garth Wilson Jade
Visit Garth in his studio and watch as he uses his expertise and craftsmanship to create beautiful Jade carvings, pendants, and jewellery from raw pounamu. Learn the story of greenstone, and purchase a piece of artistry, that you will treasure for life.
On Yer Bike
Travelling north for 20 minutes from Chapel Hill, will bring you to “On Yer Bike.” An exciting and fun filled 4-wheel motorbike and Argo tour adventure for children and adults. This is an exciting, muddy, action adventure you won't forget. Beginners and experienced riders catered for.
